Actual Wartime Photos  Page 1 - Finnish Army Recruits, Pre-war Photos, Training

This is a huge section of wartime pictures broken down into subcategories. Each category will have a basic theme. All the photos are actual photographs in the Kregel collection. They are not scanned from books or taken from other websites. In some cases there may be multiple copies of a certain photo and some of these copies may exist elsewhere in the world. I make every effort to provide you with fresh unpublished pictures of the highest quality.  I appreciate my friends around the world that have assisted me with descriptions and helped me put this collection together! . Also, Thank you to Jukka Mattila for the descriptions of the (2) m/22 uniform pictures below. Thank you from KevOs4!

Picture on right ------>

The uniform m/22 was actually established in 1919, but undergone several smaller and larger changes and additions it wasn't named m/22 until the year 1930. The reason was that the Finnish Army had taken an other field tunic in use, the m/27 and so these two battle/garrison dressed had to be separated by identifying them with the respective model number. The boys are dressed up for some festive occasion, shown by the white armband. The shoulder straps should carry some markings to show in which regiment they served. - Jukka Mattila

Civil Guard uniform, 1932.

The soldier is from the Field Artillery Regiment 2, stationed in Viipuri, shown by the markings on the shoulder straps (+ painted red!) and by the "triangle" shaped cuff with one button. Compare the cuffs with the previously mentioned picture- it shows how the different branches and arms-of- service had some differences in the basic m/22 uniforms. - Jukka Mattila
